How to Update Firmware for an Unlocked iPhone

Locking your iPhone gives you the most out of your phone's warranty.

The iPhone is a cell phone offered by the Apple company that allows people to make cellular phone calls as well as applications to their phone. If you have an unlocked iPhone, then you have the ability to add third-party applications to your phone through hacked websites. Updating the firmware to your unlocked iPhone will lock the phone back up. There is no way to update the firmware for an unlocked iPhone without locking it. Having an unlocked iPhone voids the warranty until the iPhone is locked again.

Things You'll Need

• iPhone
• USB cable
• iTunes

Instructions

1. Open the iTunes application on your desktop computer.

2. Connect the iPhone to your computer's USB port through the USB cable that came with your iPhone.

3. Click on the "Update" icon that appears on the menu. Wait for the update to complete with your new firmware.

Tips & Warnings

• If you update the firmware to the latest edition, there is no guarantee you will be able to unlock the iPhone once again.
