Paint one side of the clothespin your desired insect color. For example, paint this part yellow for a bee or blue, purple, orange or another color for a butterfly, etc.

    • 2

Paint the top (the side that clips) 1/6 (over the yellow) black after the body-color paint has dried. Paint black stripes down the remaining portion of the clothespin for a bee. For another insect, you can add a design if you wish, but it's not necessary.

    • 3

Paint two small white eyes on the top black section.

Cut your felt into a rounded rectangle shape. Tie the center of the rectangle with thin string or floral wire. It should resemble a bow-like shape.

Insert the center of the felt bow through the wide part of the clothes pin (the part you push together to open the pin) up to where the clothespin's wire is. Glue with hot glue.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can hot glue on pipe cleaner antennae, add a magnet or glue on small pipe cleaner legs for added whimsy. Instead of felt, you can also try using a coffee filter or tissue paper for the wings.
