How to Remove Bust Darts

How to Remove Bust Darts thumbnail
Loose fitting blouses and shirts are great for around the house wear.

Form fitting blouses or shirts look great as typical business casual wear but there are times when you prefer a loose fitting top. A blouse that has done its duty in the office can be remodeled by removing the bust darts. If it's an older blouse the opened dart may be a slightly different color than the rest of the fabric. Remodeling a new or old blouse so it can be worn without tucking it in can be done with a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the stitches on one side of the dart using the sea ripper. Cut through every three or four stitches.

    • 2

Pull a thread on the opposite side of the row of stitches. The seam will open as the threads are pulled out. Remove any loose threads that remain. Follow the same steps for the other dart on the front of the blouse and any that may be on the back.

    • 3

Press the area where the dart was using the steam setting on the clothes iron. If the fabric doesn't completely press out, use a dampened pressing cloth without steam to press the crease open.

    • 4

Launder the blouse to help in getting the cloth fibers back in their natural shape.
