How to Perform Leg Lifts

How to Perform Leg Lifts thumbnail
Leg lifts tone your lower abs.

Strengthen your lower abdominal muscles by performing leg lift exercises daily -- these lifts don't require equipment. Wear loose clothing and use a towel or yoga mat. Leg lifts help you burn fat, increase your metabolism, improve core stability and tone your stomach. Proper technique is necessary to avoid hurting your back. Maintain your exercise gains with good nutrition and by committing to a routine exercise schedule.

Instructions

    • 1

Lie with your back on a towel or yoga mat. Place your arms by your sides pointed toward your feet, with your palms to the floor. Keep your shoulders and the back of your head against the towel or mat. And keep your legs close together and fully straightened. Flex your feet so they bend upward at a right angle to the floor.

    • 2

Lift your legs up together, while keeping the rest of your body flat on the towel or mat. Stop lifting when your legs are pointed straight up at a right angle to your hips.

    • 3

Lower your legs back to the floor, stopping when your feet are a couple inches off the ground.

    • 4

Repeat the exercise for three sets, each with 10 to 15 repetitions.
