How to Make a Patchwork Quilted Christmas Wreath

How to Make a Patchwork Quilted Christmas Wreath thumbnail
Cover a foam wreath form with patchwork quilted fabric to make a Christmas wreath.

Patchwork quilted Christmas wreaths are lovingly made with each stitch to the fabric. Quilt the fabric prior to making the wreath. Form a wreath shape by cutting and sewing the fabric, or create a tube to slide over a foam wreath form. Stuff a sewn quilted fabric wreath with polyester stuffing. Add a bow after the wreath is complete. Hang the patchwork wreath indoors or in a location outside that is sheltered from the elements.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the 24-inch-by-6-foot piece of patchwork quilt in half lengthwise, with the front of the fabric to the inside. Pin along the 6-foot edge. Sew a 1/2-inch seam along the edge. Remove the pins. You have created a 12-inch-by-6-foot tube.

    • 2

Turn the fabric tube so the seam is on the inside.

    • 3

Lay the foam wreath form on a flat surface. Make a cut directly through the wreath with a steak knife.

    • 4

Gently separate the wreath at the cut. Insert one end of the wreath into the fabric tube. Pull the fabric around the circumference of the wreath until it is entirely covered. Gather the fabric around the inside curve.

    • 5

Pull one end of the fabric over the top of the other. Fold the raw edge under 1/2-inch. Hand sew the two pieces of fabric together.

    • 6

Place a 3-inch bow over the seam. Hand sew the bow to the fabric.
