How to Jazz Up Store-Bought Sugar Cookies
Sugar cookies are a lunchbox standby. Homemade sugar cookies are a two-step process. First the dough is made and refrigerated, then the dough is rolled and the cookies cut out and baked. Store-bought sugar cookies save time and effort, but sometimes need jazzing up. With a few ingredients and a bit of time you'll have your own version of jazzed-up stuffed cookies or elegantly dipped cookies. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Knife
- Peanut butter
- Jelly
- Ice cream
- Coconut, nuts or chocolate sprinkles
- Dried fruit and nuts
- Honey
- Food processor
- Chocolate chips
- Bowls
- Microwave
- Waxed paper
- Cookie sheet
- White chocolate chips
- Zip locked bags
- Butterscotch chips

Spread the wrong side of the sugar cookie with jelly. Spread the other cookie with peanut butter. Press together for a peanut butter and jelly cookie sandwich.

Cut a 1 inch thick slice off a square container of ice cream. The slice should be slightly smaller than the size of the sugar cookie. Place the slice on the bottom side of the cookie. Press the bottom side of another sugar cookie onto the ice cream to make a sandwich. Squeeze the cookies gently so the ice cream oozes out just a bit. Roll the sides of the sandwich in coconut, chopped nuts or chocolate sprinkles. Pplace in the freezer.

Place dried fruit such as raisins, apricots, cranberries and apples into a food processor or blender. Add nuts. Coarsely chop. If the mixture isn't sticky add a tablespoon of honey. Spread the mixture between two sugar cookies.

Melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Dip half of the cookie in the melted chocolate. Lay on a wax paper-covered cookie sheet and place in the refrigerator until the chocolate has hardened.

Melt white chocolate chips in the microwave. Dip the half of the cookie that has no chocolate into the white chocolate. Replace on the cookie sheet and the refrigerator until the white chocolate has hardened.

Melt the chocolate chips or butterscotch chips. Place the melted chocolate or butterscotch into a sealable plastic bag. Cut the corner off the end of the bag. Squeeze the chocolate or butterscotch onto the cookies making a back and forth motion so it drizzles into thin ribbons on the cookies.

Tips & Warnings
Melt chocolate or butterscotch slowly in the microwave so it doesn't burn.
Keep liquids away from melted chocolate or it will freeze up and turn hard.
