String mops are different from traditional mops in that they have a set of long, absorbent cloth strings attached to the mop head instead of a large sponge or piece of fabric. Made from cotton, nylon or microfiber, string mops are available at many grocery stores, hardware stores or home repair. Use a string mop with a large bucket and cleaning solution.   • Large bucket
  • Hot water
  • Dishwashing liquid or cleaning solution

Instructions

    • 1

      Fill a bucket with ½ cup dishwashing liquid or a household cleaner meant for mopping purposes with 1 gallon of hot water.

      Dip the string mop into the solution and lift back up. Wring the strings either by hand or using the twisting handle on the mop, if available.

      Place the mop on the floor and move back and forth in a scrubbing motion.

      Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you clean the entire floor surface.

      Empty out the cleaning solution from the pail. Rinse the string mop head in clean water by hand and wring out the strings when finished. Store the mop in a clean, dry place.
