How to Have a Masquerade Birthday Party

There are a variety of masks to choose from for your masquerade party.

Throwing a masquerade birthday party can be a fun and creative process. You can have your guests dress up in costumes from a specific era -- such as 16th century France -- or simply wear a mask of their choosing. For a more modern spin, use a Mardi Gras theme. No matter what, it should be a night to remember.

Things You'll Need

• Paper masks
• Tulle
• Balloons
• Candles
• Fake plants and trees
• Glitter confetti
• Feathers
• Card stock
• Pen

Instructions

1. Take a plain black or white mask and attach a piece of card stock to it that is big enough to write the invitation on. Use a pen with gold ink for a more glitzy feel. Inform the guests of all the details of your masquerade party, and let them know they will need to wear this mask or one of their own.

2. Use tulle to decorate the room. Put it on walls, drape it around chairs, and have it flowing out of bowls as center pieces with lots of feathers. The idea is to make the room look like a fantasy castle.

3. Add flowers entwined with vines and tulle to the chairs for an elegant look. Use lots of gold, purple and green to give your party a royal feel.

4. Make or order a cake that fits into the theme, too. Try to get one shaped like a mask, or at least decorated like one. And incorporate gold, purple and green to echo the color scheme of the party.

5. Choose simple party favors such as a decorated mask or some gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins. You can also set up a table where the guests can decorate their own masks with paint, tulle and feathers.

Tips & Warnings

• When placing the mask in an envelope to mail, be sure to include some gold glitter confetti in the envelope. Fake gemstones can also be used to decorate tables and masks.
