Things You'll Need

  • Stiffening spray

  • Ribbon

  • Blow dryer

Many times when you are working with ribbon, it's necessary to stiffen it to make it stay in a certain position. If you are making hairbows or other embellishments, or working on a particular craft, a stiff ribbon is needed for the finished effect. With just a few steps, you can stiffen a ribbon to make it crisp and attractive, without showing any sign of it having been sprayed with a stiffener.

Step 1

Position your ribbon in the desired position and make sure it won't move. Whatever position the ribbon is in when it is sprayed is the position it will dry in. Make sure the ribbon looks the way you want it to before you spray.

Step 2

Spray the stiffening spray onto the ribbon from approximately 6 inches away. Don't spray so much that you saturate the ribbon. A light spray is sufficient.

Step 3

Set your blow dryer on warm air and dry the ribbon thoroughly. Use the blow dryer for 1 or 2 minutes until the ribbon is completely stiff.

Warning

Keep stiffening spray out of the reach of children.
