How to Tether a Non-Jailbroken iPhone
The second generation of Apple's iPhone and subsequent generations allow users to tether their phones to their computers without "jailbreaking" or unlocking the phone. The first year this was available was in 2008. Tethering allows users to access the Internet on a computer using the cellphone's 3G data connection rather than with Wi-Fi or other means for Internet connection. This can be a handy feature when traveling in areas where you have a cell-phone signal, but no wireless Internet connection.
