How to Adjust Satellite Equipment

Avoid obstructions when setting up or adjusting your satellite.

If you have been getting poor or unstable reception from your satellite equipment, it may be caused by the shift in the angle of your satellite. If this occurs, a simple adjustment is all you need to achieve the highest possible signal strength for optimal picture quality. However, waiting for a service repairman to adjust your equipment could take a few days, which could mean no television until then. By obtaining the coordinates needed to align your dish with the closest space satellite, adjusting your satellite equipment can be the fastest way back to watching your favorite show.

Things You'll Need

• Elevation and azimuth coordinates
• Ladder

Instructions

1. Find out the elevation and azimuth coordinates for your location. Call your satellite provider, or refer to online websites, such as Dish Pointer to obtain your coordinates for the closest satellite in order to receive the strongest signal.

2. Loosen the bolt that keeps your satellite equipment from tilting up and down. By adjusting the tilt of the satellite, you are increasing or decreasing the elevation. Tighten the bolts after you have found the strongest elevation signal.

3. Loosen the bolt or bolts that control left and right movement of your satellite equipment. The left and right movement controls the azimuth. Use the degrees you have obtained to adjust the angle until you have the highest possible reception.

4. Keep adjusting the elevation and azimuth until you have achieved the best signal. You may want to have a friend help you by looking at the television set to make sure the signal is as close to 100 percent as possible. That way you won't have to keep running outside.

• Trees, buildings and other obstructions can hinder the reception of your satellite equipment. Consider setting up your satellite away from things that could potentially hinder your signal.
