How to Websurf With the Kindle

Although the Kindle primarily functions as an eBook Reader, you can use it to surf the Internet. It has a built-in experimental web browser application. This browser, however, does not support Java applets or media plug-ins. To use the web browser on your Kindle, it must be connected to Amazon Whispernet through an active WiFi or 3G connection. The Amazon Whispernet service is a wireless service from Amazon that facilitates the downloading of ebooks and surfing the Internet without the need for an outside Internet or wireless service provider.

Instructions

    • 1

      Press the Home key.

    • 2

Press the Menu button and then navigate to "Experimental" using the five-way navigation controller. When "Experimental" is underlined, press the five-way controller to select it. The Experimental screen opens.

    • 3

Scroll down the list of experimental items and select "Launch browser." The browser opens.

    • 4

Press the Menu button and then select "Enter URL." Type a URL and then select "go to" to visit the website.

    • 5

Press the Next Page and Previous Page buttons to scroll up and down on web pages. Use the five-way controller to navigate to the links on a web page and then press the controller to activate the link.
