How to Get a Visa for Dubai
Dubai, located in the United Arab Emerates has become a popular destiny for travel in part due to its warm ocean front location, excellent shopping opportunities and low crime rate. Most United States citizens wishing to travel to Dubai for tourism purposes are not required to acquire a visa in order to enter the United Arab Emeritas. If, however, you are planning to stay for an extended period of time or the purpose of your visit is not tourism you will need to apply for a visa.

Determine that you do, indeed, need a visa. American citizens with a valid passport that is good for at least six months do not need a visa to enter Dubai if they do not plan to stay for more than 30 days and have a round-trip ticket. You will be issued a visa upon arrival in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). You may check the "Do I need a Visa" section on the Embassy of the UAE website to confirm whether or not you need a visa if your passport is from another country. (see Resources)

Complete two copies of the visa application form. (see resources)

Confirm that your current passport will be valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in the UAE.

Gather the required documents which include a copy of your passport, two passport size photos, an invitation letter from your sponsor or host or from the organization your are visiting, a letter from your employer if employed, copy of your business license of self-employed or a letter from your bank stating that your account is in good standing is you are retired, a prepaid self-addressed stamped envelope and the processing fee of $51 in the form of a money order. Include a over letter with your application stating the reason you are visiting the UAE and specifically asking for a visa.

Mail your application and required documents to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Attn: Visa Section, 3522 International Court, NW, Suite 100, Washington D.C. 20008. You may also deliver the application in person.
