How to Mount a Retractable Leash

A retractable leash mount will vary your dog's freedom in the yard.

A retractable leash is a way of giving your dog an appropriate amount of freedom. With a retractable leash, you can let your dog explore when he wants, and hold it close when there are people or other dogs around. Creating a retractable dog leash mount for your yard will mean that you can give your dog enough freedom to explore, but it will not be able to escape. This can be the perfect option for a young or mischievous dog.

Things You'll Need

• Retractable leash
• Spring clip
• Large fence staple
• Plywood
• Hammer
• Nails

Instructions

1. Hammer the fence staple into the plywood. Once it is secure, clip a spring clip to the fence staple. The plywood should be roughly 1 square foot and 1.5 inches thick, although this does not need to be precise. Do not hammer the fence staple fully into the plywood, since the spring clip should still be free to move a little. The spring clip, however, should still be secure enough that you cannot pull it out.

2. Attach the plywood to an outside wall using the nails. Use as many nails as it takes to make the plywood extremely secure on the wall, since your dog can exert a great deal of force at times.

3. Attach the retractable leash through the spring clip and set the amount of leash you desire. Press the button to secure leash length. You can remove the leash from the clip any time you want to walk the dog.
