The bottom of the tea kettle tends to hold lime deposits from water, especially if you have hard water. According to the North Carolina Cooperative Extension website, white vinegar is a weak acid that can "remove hard water deposits from glass, rust stains from sinks, and tarnish from brass and copper."       Mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and water. Pour the mixture into the tea kettle you want to clean and boil it.

      Remove the kettle from the heat, but do not empty it. Allow the mixture to sit for a few hours or overnight.

      Rinse out the tea kettle.

      Add a few drops of dish-washing liquid to a dish cloth. Wash the bottom of the tea kettle with the dish cloth until it's clean.
