How to Make Boutonnieres and a Mother's Corsage
Aside from traditional bouquets and corsages, flowers and other embellishments lend themselves to creating boutonnieres. Boutonnieres are usually worn by men and are pinned to the lapels of their jackets during formal and semiformal events. They're also traditionally made from the flowers of a woman's corsage or bouquet. In addition to creating your own boutonnieres, a mother's corsage is also sentimental when made at home to correspond with other flowers at the event. Boutonnieres and mothers corsages allow you to express your creativity.

Select three flowers that your mother or mother-in-law likes. Mother's corsages are traditionally coordinated with the outfit the mother wears to the event in question, so choose the flowers accordingly. In addition to the color of the flower, the type of flower is important to the mother's corsage. Lilies, magnolias and sunflowers are nonromantic flowers that make good choices.

Snip the stems from the flowers you have chosen, leaving about an inch of stem protruding from each. Bundle the flowers together and wrap the stems together thoroughly with florist's tape.

Tie a length of silk ribbon around the center of the wrapped stems, into a bow. A 12-inch length or longer provides a long and flowing effect.

Enhance the appearance of the mother's corsage by adding small embellishments to it. For example, a large, decorative corsage pin serves as both a way to attach the corsage and an ornamental accent.

Select a single flower and a single piece of foliage, such a leaf. These items are ordinarily pulled from the bouquet of the bride at a wedding, but you can use any flower of your choice that is suitable to the event.

Snip the stem from the flower, leaving only an inch. Wrap the remaining stem with florist's tape.

Glue the small floral piece to the front of a premade bow measuring about 3-by-3 inches. This creates a tiny bit of accent to the simplistic design of the floral piece without being feminine.
