How to Make Cookie Cutter Cards

How to Make Cookie Cutter Cards thumbnail
Cookie cutters are not just for cookies anymore.

Cookie cutter cards are unique cards that add a creative touch to packages, favor bags, holiday gifts and place settings. These cards are very easy to make and can be constructed with common art supplies that most people already have in their home. You can customize cookie cutter cards to reflect a specific holiday, animals, shapes or the holiday theme of your choice. Once you have created the card, you can personalize the card before giving it to the recipient.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a piece of construction paper to use for your cookie cutter cards. You may want to choose a color that will complement your gift or decorative theme.

    • 2

Fold the piece of construction paper in half. You can fold the paper in half vertically or lengthwise, depending on the cookie cutter shape you are using.

    • 3

Align one of the edges of the cookie cutter of your choice against the fold on the construction paper. The fold is where the card will fold and open.

    • 4

Trace along the outside or the inside of the cookie cutter with a pencil. Tracing along the outside will give you a larger card, while tracing along the inside will give you a smaller card. Be carful not to move the cookie cutter while tracing the outline.

    • 5

Cut the shape out along the lines using your scissors. Remember not to cut the folded area of the construction paper. If you will be making more than one cookie cutter card, use this cut-out as a template.

    • 6

Decorate the outside of the cookie cutter card with colored markers. Create an outline or draw enhancements. You can also write a special message or greeting on the inside of the card.

    • 7

Punch a hole in the top of the cookie cutter card with your hole punch. Ensure the hole doesn't tear by positioning it far enough away from the edge and the fold of the card.

    • 8

Thread twine or decorative ribbon through the hole and tie it to make a bow. You may want to leave additional twine or ribbon hanging so that you can use it to attach the card to a gift or package.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add embellishments such as glitter or jewels to your card for extra sparkle.

  • You can add wiggly eyes to animal cookie cutter cards.

  • Use caution when using scissors to avoid injury.
