2
Check the pool's pH level. The pH level in the winter has to be the same as the pH level in the summer. Calcium hardness and total alkalinity must be balanced to ensure the water's cleanliness. Use a winterizing chemical in the water to help keep the pool ready for use in the swimming season.

Lower the water level below the skimmer. This will help with securing your pool cover onto the pool. If the water is too low, your pool cover will sink and not cover the pool correctly.

Remove any water from the plumbing pipes using a vacuum. After removing the water from each pipe, seal the pipe with a plug. A plug with a rubber gasket or O-shaped ring is best used. Secure the plugs with Teflon tape for easy removal when you are ready to use your pool again.
