How to Attach a Train to a Wedding Dress

A detachable train can be secured with hooks or buttons.

Detachable trains are handy for brides who want a formal, elegant look at their ceremony, and freedom to dance the night away at their reception without worrying about tripping over their dress. Attaching and detaching your train can seem tricky at first, but once you determine which end of the train gets attached, the rest is simple.

Instructions

1. Look for hooks or buttons sewn on the back of your dress at the waist. They will likely be covered in white thread or fabric so they won't stand out.

2. Lay your train on a clean, flat surface with the decorative side up. Check both ends for the "eyes," or fabric loops, that will help secure the train to your gown. If necessary, run your hands along the seam of each short end of the train to locate them.

3. Line the fabric loops of the train up with the hooks or buttons on your gown. Slip each loop over the corresponding hook or button, securing your train into place.

Tips & Warnings

• You can put your dress on before attaching the train, but because the train attaches at the back, you will need someone to help.
