Valentine's Day falls on Feb. 14 each year. Children often celebrate the day with their friends and family members. Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 ounces bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Baking sheets
  • Nonstick spray
  • Frosting
  • Cake box or large container

Instructions

      Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Add 1 cup of softened butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 2 eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla extract to a mixing bowl. Cream the ingredients together with an electric mixer.

      Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and a teaspoon each of salt and baking soda to a separate bowl.

      Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture to create dough. Fold in 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips.

      Spray two baking sheets with nonstick spray. Separate the dough between the two pans. Spread the dough on the pans to create an 8-inch heart shape. Leave 1 inch of space around the perimeter so that the dough can spread when it bakes.

      Bake the giant heart cookies for 20 to 25 minutes or until the edges are brown and the center appears set. Trim the edges if the heart that appear uneven.

      Allow the heart cookies to cool completely. Add your favorite frosting. Place the heart cookie in a cake box or a large container.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also pour the dough into a heart-shaped cake pan.

  • If you have difficulty spreading the dough into a heart shape, you can spread it into a circle and cut out a heart shape with a pizza cutter.

  • Never eat raw cookie dough because the raw eggs can cause a food-borne illness.
