Instructions

    • 1

Visit a local craft store to educate yourself on what colors and fragrances are available for candle making. Choose two or three colors and fragrances to create a combination of candles.

    • 2

Remove the label from a tin can. Wash it inside and out in warm soapy water. Tap gently on one side of the can with a hammer until it bends together to form a spout.

    • 3

Fill the can 1/2 to 3/4 full with hard candle wax. Add four to five drops each of essential oil and coloring. As the wax melts add more coloring if desired.

    • 4

Fill a saucepan with two to three inches of water. Place the tin can in the center of the saucepan. Set the pan on a stove burner and turn it on to medium heat.

    • 5

Watch the wax at all times as it melts. Use a pair of metal tongs to steady the tin can while the wax is heating. It takes time to melt the wax without burning, so be patient and refrain from turning the heat up.

    • 6

Remove the tin can with the tongs when the wax is completely melted. Immediately pour the liquid wax gently into the cups of a mini, muffin pan. Wear oven mitts to protect your hands from the hot wax. Move the muffin pan to a flat surface in an area where it will not be disturbed. Allow 4 to 6 hours to dry.

    • 7

Carefully touch the top of the wax to determine if it is fully dry. When the wax is hard enough, your finger shouldn't leave an indentation in it. If dry, place the muffin pan in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes.

    • 8

Remove the pan from the freezer and lay top down on a dish towel. Tap on the back of each muffin cup to loosen the wax candle. Lift the muffin pan upward to release the candles.

    • 9

Place candle on a heated candle warmer to enjoy its scent. Store unused candles in a plastic bag in a cool dry place.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you spill hot wax on your skin, immediately run cold water over the area. Once the wax has hardened remove from skin. Do not try to wipe the wax off while hot.

  • Never leave a hot stove unattended.
