How to Make a Driveway Alarm
You can use driveway alarms to detect people approaching your house, whether they are visitors or intruders, as well as any vehicle that pulls up. The system uses a sensor to detect motion or objects. Keep in mind the size of your driveway, the kind of sensor, and the receiver when selecting your alarm system. Wired alarm systems are usually costlier but more reliable, while wireless alarms are easier to install. You can hire a professional or install a wireless alarm yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the sensor in the driveway. Choose a spot where it will not detect vehicles on the road, and where it can easily communicate with the receiver.

Open the front cover of the sensor and insert batteries of the type indicated in the manual for the wireless alarm system. The batteries should be placed at the installation location of the sensor to ensure correct calibration.

Take the sensor inside and set the frequency and tone, following the manual, using the DIP switches. Close the cover of the sensor after setting it.

Mount the sensor above the ground, following instructions from the manufacturer. Usually you will see screw tabs for the sensor. Use a posthole digger and install a wooden post if there is no other place to hold the sensor.

Place the receiver above ground level, and open its front cover using a screwdriver.

Set the frequency in the receiver to match that of the sensor so that they can communicate. Close the front cover.

Connect the receiver to the power adapter, and plug in the power. Switch on the receiver.

Adjust the volume of the receiver and test the chime. You do not want it so loud it scares arriving guests, but it should be loud enough to alert you of intruders.

Test the wireless alarm system to check that the sensor detects the motion, and the system plays the chime.

Tips & Warnings
Driveway alarm systems usually state transmission distances assuming a clear line of sight. If trees and shrubs are in the way, you probably need something more powerful.
Be mindful of the transmission distance between the sensor and receiver. If your driveway is small, you do not need capability for a long transmission distance.
