How to Upgrade the Processor on an Acer Gemstone
The Acer gemstone is a laptop computer. The factory processor in the Acer gemstone is the T7100 or the T7300 Core 2 Duo. If you are looking for increased performance in your Gemstone, upgrading your processor will achieve this goal. The Acer Gemstone hosts a PBGA479 processor socket. To upgrade your processor, you will need to buy a faster processor with a PBGA479 socket type. The T7100 has a 1.8GHz core speed. Your new processor should have a core speed exceeding 1.8GHz to see increased performance from your laptop.

- Socket PBGA479 processor
- Flat-head screwdriver

Turn off your Gemstone and remove the power cord.

Pry up the small rectangular plastic piece located below your monitor. You will see a small tab where you can insert the screwdriver.

Remove the three screws securing your keyboard.

Disconnect the data cable and remove your keyboard.

Remove the four screws from your outer shell. The outer shell is the piece that protects your Gemstones inner components. Remove the outer shell.

Remove the four screws from your heatsink. The heatsink is the fan on the left side of your Gemstone. Disconnect the power cord and remove the heat sink.

Turn the locking mechanism for your processor counterclockwise.

Remove the processor and place your new CPU in the socket. Turn the socket-locking mechanism clockwise.

Replace the heat sink, outer shell, keyboard, and keyboard bezel.
