How to Make Floral Foam Soak Up Water
Floral foam is similar to a sponge and is used in floral arrangements. The foam soaks up water like a sponge and acts as a support as well as a preservative to prolong the life of flowers. A strong benefit of floral foam is its ability to act like a plant and move water to the surface and up the stem of flowers. The foam is often green, but may be purchased in other colors including brown, purple and yellow. Properly keeping the foam moist with enough water is important for the duration of floral arrangements. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Fill a bucket with 2 gallons of water.
-
2
Drop the floral foam into the bucket. Allow the foam to soak the water. This takes about 20 seconds.
-
-
3
Remove the foam when the top of it is level with the surface of the water. Allow the foam to completely drain. Over-soaking the foam causes it to break up in your floral arrangements.
-
4
Cut a V-shaped notch into the top of the foam. This allows water to be poured into the vase without it spilling over.
-
5
Place the foam into the desired vase or container.
-
6
Water the foam daily. Plant material uses the water in the foam. Once the foam dries out, the flowers begin to wilt and die.
