How to Make Custom Road Signs

How to Make Custom Road Signs thumbnail
While the names on road signs are generally predetermined, you can name your home or driveway whatever you want.

While the only way to physically construct your own road sign from scratch requires metalworking skills and a good deal of paint, you can easily make your own custom sign online and purchase it in physical form from any of several custom sign-manufacturing companies. All that's necessary is for you to provide a name for the street you want to emblazon, and you can make your own authentic-looking custom road sign, ready to hang on a wall or attach to the top of a pole.

Instructions

Use Build-A-Sign's online service. The company offers a wide variety of signs in several colors and numerous styles. Browse through the categories until you find a style you like, then click on the "Customize It!" link underneath. This will take you to the customization page, with a complete design interface to allow you to create the exact sign you want. Add, move and edit text or clip art, or upload your own image. Change the color, font and size of the text, if so desired. Click the "Save and Continue" button to choose size and material, and proceed to checkout.

Try EZ Street Signs' service if you know you want a classic sign with white text and border. This customization is much simpler than Build-A-Sign's, but also more limited. Enter the street name and choose a suffix abbreviation (DR, HWY, etc.). Select a color and desired size for the sign and add it to your cart to finish.

Design a road sign at U-Turn Products' site if you're looking for an even simpler customization menu. These signs are all 24-inch by 6-inch galvanized steel with white text on green, but if that's the type of sign you're going for, it can be an excellent choice. Enter your street's name and choose a suffix, as well as a directional prefix (N, S, E or W) if desired. If you want a double-sided sign, enter the same info for the other side--unlike the signs made on the other two sites, you can have a different name on the reverse.
