Instructions

1. Activate the card at the purchase counter. Many Visa prepaid gift cards are activated by a cashier at the point of purchase. The cashier will often notify the customer of point of purchase activation which renders the card ready for immediate use. If the cashier does not verbally verify activation, then ask if the card is active.

2. Follow instructions on the back of the card if the card is not activated at the point of purchase

   , or if an automatic checkout was used. The directions on the card often instruct the customer to call a toll-free number to activate the card. The cardholder may be prompted to provide the full card number prior to activation. If the card will be activated by phone then activation must usually occur before a 24 or 48-hour time period elapses.

3. Sign the card. The activation is not complete before the back of the card is signed. The card holder must place a full legible signature on the back of the card to prevent unauthorized use.
