How to Recharge a Zippo Lighter

Recharging or refilling your Zippo lighter is necessary when it runs out of lighter fluid. The refillable nature of the Zippo lighter is one of the things that separates it from modern disposable lighters. Zippo lighters have been manufactured since 1932. They are well known for their ability to withstand the elements and the wind. Zippo lighters also carry a lifetime warranty. Zippo only recommends using Zippo brand lighter fluid.

Things You'll Need

• Zippo lighter fluid
• Cloth

Instructions

1. Open the Zippo's lid, as you were going to ignite the lighter. Make sure the lighter is cool, and then grab the flame buffer and lift it out of the Zippo case.

2. Turn the unit over. You'll see a felt lid on the bottom. One side is held down with a screw; the other side is free. Lift the free side.

3. Fill the Zippo with the fluid carefully. Let the lighter fluid fully saturate the padding inside the lighter. Be careful not to overfill the unit. Close the felt lid.

4. Place the unit back inside the case. Wipe the Zippo well with a dry cloth to remove any lighter fluid. Set the Zippo down and wash your hands well before lighting the Zippo.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't wash your hands and wipe the lighter before igniting it, it could catch on fire or explode.
