How to Take the GED Test in Norfolk, Virginia
The General Educational Development (GED) Test is administered by the American Council on Education. The State of Virginia considers those who pass the GED as having the skills and knowledge of a high school graduate. The test may not be taken online, but the Virginia Department of Education maintains a number of testing sites in Norfolk and throughout the state, as well as test preparation materials, accommodations for test takers with disabilities, and other resources for individuals who want to take the GED.

Confirm your eligibility to take the GED test in Virginia. Test-takers over age 18 are automatically eligible, regardless of state of residence, but test-takers who are 16-18 must provide documentation to demonstrate eligibility, such as a homeschooling certificate signed by the superintendent, an official release from compulsory school attendance, a court order or proof of incarceration.

Preregister for the GED at GED123.org. When you reach the request for the access code, leave it blank and click "continue." This site will allow you to search for testing sites in Norfolk and the surrounding area by ZIP code.

Contact the testing center identified in GED123.org and provide any additional requests, such as accommodations for individuals with disabilities.

Prepare to take the GED test. Virginia maintains a special GED taskforce that provides significant online help for GED test takers, as does the American Council on Education (see Resources).

Take the GED test. Results of your score will be sent to you, and you may request additional copies of the GED transcript through the Virginia Department of Education for $5 each.
