How to Fix Kohler Low Flow Faucets

Kohler makes a line of low-flow faucets for use in the home or residential buildings. The idea is to save water through using less of it with a slower rate of flow. These faucets are fitted and designed just like their regular faucets, so repairing them requires the same basic steps. You will find that some of the parts look a little different from those of regular faucets. The process takes about a half hour. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the water supply by closing the valves on the incoming water pipes.

    • 2

Remove the cap on top of the faucet handle, if there is one. Remove the screw under this cap with an Allen wrench that fits the screw head size. Generally, this is 1/8 inch. If there is no cap, the screw is located along the base of the faucet. Find and remove it with the Allen wrench. The location of the screw depends on the model of Kohler faucet you own.

    • 3

Take off the handle and remove the bonnet cap directly beneath it by loosening it with your hands, or use a large pair of pliers if the bonnet is too tight to remove by hand.

    • 4

Lift the cartridge out and insert a new cartridge in its place. The cartridge must line up with the grooves inside the faucet head. Once the cartridge is replaced, put on the bonnet, tighten it and re-install the handle.

    • 5

Remove the faucet's aerator by unscrewing the cap on the end of the spout. Wash out the aerator and replace it by screwing it back on. Or replace the part with a new aerator. Many Kohler repair kits include this part.
