Instructions for How to Knot a Long Scarf Into a Necklace

Turn a long scarf into a necklace using the knotting technique.

A scarf is one of the most essential and versatile fashion accessories. Not only is it practical in keeping your neck and chest warm, but it is also used to complement outfits and to make a fashion statement. It has been embraced in the fashion world and has been used as a headband, a belt and even as a shawl. You can wear it as a necklace using simple knotting techniques.

• Long scarf

Instructions

1. Choose a scarf that has the fabric and color scheme you like. A lightweight, sheer scarf would work best.

2. Tie a standard knot in the center of the scarf. Tie two additional knots, both of equal distance from the center knot, on either end. Add another two knots next to the knots on both ends of the scarf. There should be a total of five knots.

3. Wrap the knotted scarf around your neck and tie in the back to wear as a necklace.

4. Add variety by wrapping the knotted scarf in and around a straight link chain or a decorative piece of ribbon, both approximately 1 foot long. Thread the scarf through the link openings, or around the ribbon, making sure it is evenly distributed throughout. Secure the scarf by threading it through the last link, or tying the ends of the ribbon to the end of the knotted scarf, before wearing as a necklace.

5. Include more decorative elements by attaching pendants or beads to the knotted scarf using a copper wire. Slide the hole of the pendants or beads onto a 20-gauge copper wire then tie a loop around the scarf, positioning the bead where you want it.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure to tie the knots loosely so you can easily untie the them and reuse the scarf.
