How to Make Amulets With Gemstones
Amulets have been worn throughout history as a talisman to protect against negative spirits. All gemstones have their own symbolism, many offering protection and good luck. Making a wire-wrapped amulet with your choice of gemstones is a simple project, and one that allows you to create your own lucky charm.

1
Search for a gemstone, choosing one that is of sufficient size to wrap with wire. Any shape or type of gemstone can be used.
-
2
Cut two pieces of wire. The wire must be at least 10 times the width of the gemstone.
-
-
3
Lay one piece of wire on the work surface. Place the bottom of the gemstone on the center of the wire. Place the second piece of wire on top of the stone in the same direction.
-
4
Twist the two wires together to encase the stone. Twist at least three times on each side. Make sure the wire is pressed flat against the stone.
-
5
Press the wires upward; bend them around the shape of the gemstone. Form the wire in any design you want, twisting two wires at a time in various directions and meeting at various intersections. Keep the wire flush against the stone. Repeat this process until you have formed a cage encasing the gemstone.

6
Pull the wires together at the top of the gemstone. Shape the wires around the gemstone, and pinch them to meet in the center. Hold the pinched wires together with your fingers.
-
7
Create a small loop in the wires with the pliers. Wrap any excess wire three times around the bottom of the loop. This step creates the bail from which the amulet will hang.
-
8
Cut excess wire tails with the wire cutter. Use the pliers to tuck in the ends of the wire.

Tips & Warnings
Choose wire based on the size of the gemstone. The thinnest wire that can accommodate the weight of the bead should be used.
