The Gerbera flower, often called Gerber daisy, is a close relative to the sunflower, which is evidenced by its broad blooms. Gerber daisy blooms house the seeds, which you can use to grow more of these beautiful flowers. Gerber daisy seeds are quite expensive, so harvesting your own seeds is a budget friendly option for propagation. The seeds have a very short range of viability, but you can extend this by dry-storing them in your refrigerator. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect your Gerber daisies near the end of the growing season. Look for faded, browning and dried out flowers.

    • 2

Use a pair of scissors or garden shears to remove the dead blooms. Place the blooms in a paper bag. Make a few incisions on the bag for air circulation and put it in a warm place for a week or two so the blooms can dry out.

    • 3

Crush the blooms to get the seeds out. Place the seeds in an airtight glass container and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to plant them.
