How to Use a LEGO Separator

After a while, some LEGO creations begin to settle in the shape and position in which they have been built, making it hard to separate the pieces. A lesser known, but really useful LEGO tool is the separator, a simple handle-shaped device which helps take apart your LEGO creations. The device is ideal for removing plates from base plates, but can also be used to take bricks off of other bricks, or remove any piece which is a little stuck.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two-stud bottom part of your LEGO separater on a piece of LEGO that's securely attached to another piece. Position the device along the longer end of the LEGO piece.

    • 2

Push down at the far end of the separator to lift the LEGO bricks up and apart. You should see the far end of the LEGO piece lift upward.

    • 3

Remove the separator from the LEGO piece and set aside. Repeat to remove all of the pieces from your model.

Tips & Warnings

  • The separator doesn't work on pieces with a single stud on top. It is also not ideal for removing large plate pieces from base plates.
