How to Replace the Belt on a Hoover SteamVac F5914 900 SpinScrub Upright Vacuum

Meredith Jameson

The Hoover SteamVac F5914 900 SpinScrub Upright Vacuum is a professional-strength carpet cleaner that features rotating scrubbing brushes to pull ground-in dirt from carpet fibers with the use of heavy-duty cleaning detergent.

The SteamVac has a heated dry option, 12-amp motor, dual cleaning and dirty water tanks and a limited warranty. If the belt on the SteamVac breaks or is damaged, it will prevent the unit from proper function and will require replacement. Changing the belt is relatively simple. Always turn off and unplug the vacuum before performing any maintenance.

  1. Lower the handle on the Steam Vac and turn the vacuum over. Use a standard screwdriver to remove the screws on the vacuum cover and set the cover and screws aside.

  2. Remove any string or fibers from the brush roll with a pair of scissors and lift out the brush roll. Set aside. Analyze the belt to note how it is looped around the belt shaft and pulley before removing the belt.

  3. Slide the new belt into position over the roller brush and position the brush roll back into the vacuum. Pull the belt over the motor and pulley and roll gently to ensure it is attached correctly. It should spin without interference.

  4. Replace the vacuum cover and fasten the screws. Turn the vacuum back over and restore power before using.
