How do I Light a Norcold Gas & Electric Refrigerator?

A Norcold refrigerator that uses either gas or electric power for proper operation and is made almost exclusively for RV usage. They are generally smaller units designed to fit in the limited space of an RV camper, and are built to run off of 12-volt supplied electricity. If that isn't available, they will run off of propane bottled.gas. There are two types of Norcold units, the older First Generation type and the newer Second Generation type. Although they function almost identically, the pilot light for both is lit in two different ways.

First Generation Norcold gas and electric refrigerators.

Turn your propane tank "on" at the main valve.

Turn your refrigerator thermostat to the lowest setting possible, then select the "LP" or gas setting on your Norcold gas and electric refrigerator.

Push in and hold the main safety valve in the "on" position, then press the main igniter button down several times rapidly for approximately 5 seconds duration. The ignite button will be colored red for easy identification.

Open the burner box while continuing to hold down the safety valve, and observing the gas flame ignition. The burner box will be located at the lower front of the refrigerator. When the flame ignites, release the safety valve, and close the burner box.

Adjust the refrigerator thermostat to the temperature setting you want.

Second Generation Norcold gas and electric refrigerators.

Turn your propane tank "on" at the main valve.

Open the refrigerator door and adjust the thermostat on the refrigerator to the temperature desired.

Close the door, and the electronic ignition will automatically start the gas flame and keep it burning until the temperature that has been selected is reached.
