Diaper cakes --- rolled cotton or disposable diapers that are assembled to look like a cake --- are practical gifts for expectant mothers, and they can also serve as creative centerpieces for a baby shower. Diaper cakes are ideal for those with a limited budget and can be easily personalized. Decorate them to suit the occasion or tuck smaller items inside. They're easy to make, and you can rest assured that your gift will be put to good use.
Cut thin ribbon into strips that are about a foot long. Roll up each of the 75 diapers and tie a piece of ribbon around them to secure.

Use a platter as the base of your diaper cake. Place a baby bottle in the center of the platter and stand six of the diapers around the bottle. Secure them with a piece of thick ribbon. Place an additional 15 rolled diapers around the first layer and secure them with another piece of ribbon. Complete the first layer of the cake with another row of 25 diapers. Wrap a wide ribbon around that layer and fasten with a bow.

Start the second layer by placing six rolled diapers around the baby bottle. They should completely cover the bottle. Secure that row with a ribbon, and place another layer of 15 diapers around it. This should complete the second layer of your diaper cake. Wrap a wide ribbon around the second layer and fasten with a bow.

Place another baby bottle on top of the first bottle. Surround the bottom half of the second bottle with six diapers and tie a piece of wide ribbon around them. This completes the construction of your diaper cake.
5
Decorate the diaper cake with items the parents can use for the baby, such as rattles, pacifiers or small toys. Tuck these items between the layers, within the diapers or into the ribbons.
