Broken and cubed automotive glass.

The windshield on a 1990 Honda CRX is designed with safety in mind. It is composed of two layers of automotive glass fused together by a thin layer of transparent adhesive film. In the event of an accident the glass breaks into small cubes and the adhesive sways. The small cubes are designed not to harm the passengers of the vehicle. If the windshield on your Honda CRX cracks, replace it as soon as possible to ensure you can see through it clearly at every angle, as well as ensure it protects you effectively during an accident. But before you can replace the windshield you must first remove it.

Instructions

    • 1

Undo the cap at the base of the windshield wipers. Remove the 13 millimeter bolt and lift the wiper assembly up and off the dowel.

    • 2

Unscrew the interior rear view mirror mounting screws. Remove the rear view mirror assembly.

    • 3

      Prop open the hood.

    • 4

Run a pry tool along the outside rim of the windshield. Remove all the weather sealing rubber.

    • 5

Break the urethane adhesive hold. Stick a thin blade knife between the windshield and the vehicle frame. Slowly and cautiously push the window rim off the frame from the inside of the Civic.

    • 6

Remove the windshield. Use two hands and push the windshield out from the inside. Get a broad, even handle on the window to prevent it from breaking. Discard the broken windshield in a garbage can. Since the glass is specialized, do not discard it in a glass recycling bin.

Tips & Warnings
