How to Synchronize an iPhone to NIST
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) maintains an Internet Time Service that is recognized as the official time in the United States. The NIST is a non-regulatory agency that is part of the United States Department of Commerce. Cellular phone carriers in the United States use the official NIST time to set the network time displayed on cellular phones. The iPhone gives you the option of manually setting the time or allowing the iPhone to sync automatically with the offical NIST time.

Tap the "Settings" icon.

Select the "General" option.

Tap the "Date & Time" button.

Move the switch to the right of "Set Automatically" to the "ON" position. Your iPhone will automatically sync with your cellular service provider's network time clock and display the accurate NIST time.
