Instructions

    • 1

Choose your rollers. The size of your rollers determines the size of your curl. Smaller rollers for tight curls and larger rollers for big curls. Or mix and match to add depth. Most hot roller sets come with various sizes.

    • 2

Plug in your hot rollers and turn them on to begin to heat. Spray the styling product onto your hair. Thermal sprays are good because they lessen the damage that heat can do to your hair. Be sure to follow the product instructions on the product label.

    • 3

Comb your hair to eliminate tangles. Part your hair into sections using your styling clips. Using your hands, pull the hair above your ears into one section and clip it in place on top of your head. Leave the rest of your hair below the ears hanging loose to roll.

Check the red indicator light on your rollers to see if they are fully heated. Once the light appears you can start rolling your hair. Next take a lock of hair about a 1/2- to 1-inch thick, and pull it up and away from your head. Place the roller underneath of the end of the lock and begin to wrap the hair around it as your roll the roller toward your scalp. Make sure your ends are smooth onto the roller as you begin to roll it. This keeps your curls smooth and from looking crumpled or frizzy.

Insert a roller pin to lock the roller in place when the roller is as close to your scalp as possible. Repeat this process on the bottom section of hair, then remove the styling clip on top of your head and roll this section of hair until all of your hair is set in rollers. Set with hairspray by spraying your entire head once or twice. Try rolling in different directions, both forward and back to give a more layered effect.

    • 6

Remove the rollers when they are completely cool to the touch. Start with hair at the base of your neck to avoid getting your hair caught in pins or other rollers. Once all of the rollers are removed style your hair with your fingers for a tight, tossed look or brush them out with your comb for a loose, wavy style. Set with hairspray by spraying your curls all over.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hair that is not freshly washed tends to hold curl better. If you do wash your hair before hot rolling, try to use less conditioner. Twisting your hair before you roll it will give hair a spiral effect.
