How to Replace a 1994 Lincoln Continental Brake Line
About every six months, you should raise your 1994 Lincoln Continental and support it securely on jack stands to check the brake lines. Inspect the rubber hoses, which connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brake assemblies, for cracks, chafing of the outer cover, leaks, blisters and other damage. These are important parts of the brake system, and you should make a thorough inspection. If the hoses exhibit any of these conditions, replace the line with a new one.

1
Use a flare nut wrench to disconnect the brake line from the hose fitting. Pull the clip off the brake line and push the hose through the frame bracket. Be careful not to bend the frame bracket or the brake line. Hold the fitting on the hose with a wrench to prevent the metal line from twisting and the frame bracket from bending.

2
Remove the banjo bolt holding the brake line to the caliper. Discard the sealing washers.

-
3
Connect the new hose to the caliper, using new sealing washers. Replace the banjo bolt and tighten it to 30 to 40 foot-pounds of torque.
-
4
Connect the other end of the line to the bracket on the chassis. Do not twist the hose.
-
5
Connect the metal brake line to the hose fitting by hand. Use a flare nut wrench to tighten the fitting securely. Be sure to use a wrench on the hose fitting to prevent the bracket from bending or the metal line from twisting.

6
Check to be sure there are no kinks in the hose. Make sure the hose does not contact any part of the suspension. Check this by turning the wheels to the extreme left and right. If the hose makes contact, remove it and correct the installation as necessary.

Tips & Warnings
After you replace the brake line, bleed the system of all air. Have someone pump the brake pedal and hold it down while you open the bleed screw on the caliper to allow any air to escape. You may want to put a small hose on the bleeder and catch the brake fluid in a bottle to discard. Check your brake fluid and refill as needed.
