How to Make a Wedding Veil Headpiece
The cost of a wedding can be a blow to your bank account. Even the smallest detail can cost hundreds of dollars, including the bride's wedding veil headpiece. An easy solution to this bank-breaker is to create your own wedding veil with the same materials as a store-bought veil. The difference is the total cost, much less than the store-bought version. Making your own headpiece takes little time and gives you a keepsake for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 2 yards tulle (45-inch width)
- Thread
- Sewing needle
- Headband, hat or tiara
- Fabric glue (optional)
- Beads, pearls, crystals, appliques or silk flowers (optional)
Instructions

1
Fold tulle in half lengthwise. Make sure you have two yards of fabric with a width of 45 inches.
-
2
Sew a gathering stitch with the needle and thread, four inches in from the fold you created. Weave the needle in and out of the fabric, using long stitches at least 1 inch apart. For extra durable stitches, create two parallel lines of stitching, one just above the one created four inches from the fold. Do not make knots in the thread at this point.

3
Gather the tulle at the fold by pulling on each end of the thread and bunching up the tulle. Then knot each end of thread once you have the tulle gathered just how you want it. The gathered fold becomes the top of the veil, which attaches to the bride's head.
-
4
Add a headband, hat, or tiara of your choice. Attach your accessory just below the fold in the tulle where you have done the gathered stitching. Sew it on or use fabric glue.
-
5
Decorate your wedding veil with additional pieces of flair, such as beads, pearls, crystals, appliques, or silk flowers.
