How to Light a Coleman 200 Lantern

In 1909, W.C. Coleman introduced his first table lamp to the world. Five years later, Coleman revealed the design of lantern that would ultimately make his name. The famous Colman lantern has had numerous iterations over the years. The Coleman modern 200 lantern appeared in the early 1950s. The model required Coleman brand fuel, which was used to fill the lantern's tank and saturate the mantle inside the lantern globe. Older models are still popular today, and replacement parts are available directly through Coleman. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the valve on the side of the Coleman model 200 lantern all the way right. Remove the filler cap from the fuel tank.

    • 2

Place the funnel into the filler hole, and fill the tank with Coleman fuel. Approximately one and three-fifths pints of fuel is needed to fill the tank. Replace the filler cap.

    • 3

Rotate the plunger dial two full turns to the left. Give the plunger 35 to 40 pumps, in and out. Pumping the plunger creates air pressure, drawing fuel into the lantern fuel chamber.

    • 4

Turn the plunger to the right until it is tight, and push the plunger all the way in.

    • 5

Rotate the cleaning needle, between the tank and globe, twice to the right to clean the generator tip.

    • 6

Turn the cleaning needle so that the end is facing down.

    • 7

Give the valve one-fourth turn to the left. Place a lighted match through the opening in the globe, and hold the match under the mantle.

    • 8

Withdraw the match once the mantle is alight. Turn the valve to the left to increase the flame inside the Coleman 200 lantern.
