How to Remove a Broken Fence Post
A fence can blow over or fall down if broken fence posts aren't removed and replaced. Fence posts sometimes rot off or break near ground level. If this happens, the fencing attached to the post no longer has direct support and will begin leaning. When the fence leans, the other posts in the fence line will be strained. Too much weight strain on these posts can cause further breakage. The whole fence could topple over if you don't remedy the problem. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Dig down around the base of the post with a shovel. Dig until you reach the bottom of the post. If the post has rotted, you may dig up several pieces of the rotting post. Remove these pieces from the hole along with the soil.

2
Remove the fasteners holding the fence rails or wires to the broken fence post. Pull nails out with a claw hammer by placing the nail head between the claws and prying the head of the hammer against the fence while you pull downward on the handle.

Cut wire clips holding the fencing material to the fence post with a pair of wire cutters. Hold the fence post when the last clip or nail is removed to keep it from falling.
