How Can I Go From London to Glasgow by Train?
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and is a stylish, vibrant place to visit. It is 400 miles away from London, but it is very easy to travel between the two cities by rail. A train journey from London to Glasgow takes between four and five hours, depending on which train you travel on. The trains depart from London Euston Station for Glasgow Central Station roughly every hour and are run by Virgin Trains.

Check the latest train timetable with National Rail Enquiries by going to their website (see Resources) or calling 08457 484950 and decide which train you wish to travel on.

Arrive at London Euston Station in good time to catch your train. Buy a ticket from the ticket office or the many machines in the station.

Check the large departures board to find out which platform your train is leaving from.

Head to the relevant platform and board your train. If you have reserved a seat, find your carriage and seat; otherwise find an available seat for your journey.

Some train journeys to Glasgow will involve changing to a second train at Preston in Lancashire, so be sure to check when buying your ticket.
From early evening, all trains are sleeper trains, which travel overnight and can take more than 11 hours to reach Glasgow. It is possible to book a bed on these trains.
Trains in the UK tend to be more expensive if you buy a ticket on the day of travel. You can save a lot of money by buying your tickets in advance at the Euston Station ticket office or online at National Rail Enquiries. The further in advance you buy the ticket, the cheaper it tends to be.
