Instructions

  1. Do It Yourself

    • 1

Purchase iron-on paper or a t-shirt transfer kit online or from a specialty store in your area. Set your iron on the hottest temperature and preheat. Be sure to read all directions carefully while the iron is heating.

    • 2

Select the LDS scripture you want to monogram onto the shirt. Using your printer settings flip the image so it does not print backwards when ironed onto the t-shirt, then print the image from your inkjet printer onto the iron on paper.

    • 3

Lay your pillow case on a hard, flat surface and iron it to remove wrinkles, then place your t-shirt on the pillow case and iron to pull out any moisture. Place your transfer face down on the t-shirt where you would like the monogram to appear.

    • 4

Use both hands and apply firm pressure when ironing. Run the iron over the entire transfer making slow passes left to right, then up and down in small circles for 5 to 10 minutes for each pass. Allow the t-shirt to cool, then remove the transfer paper.

    Find a Monogram Store

    • 5

Locate a monogram store in your area via the phone book or a general search on the Internet. Some specialize in religious gifts and have scriptures on hand. Alternatively, call ahead, print the verse you would like monogrammed and/or take your Book of Mormon in with you.

    • 6

Choose a specific style of gift. There are so many gifts to choose from today. You can stick with a traditional t-shirt, or opt for a more unique item. Maybe look for a pewter/silver bracelet for your loved one or a stone to sit in their garden.

    • 7

Take note of the day your gift will be ready. When you arrive to pick up your purchase, it is good to check that the spelling of the scripture is correct and that you are satisfied with your gift. Check to see if your store offers gift wrap if you intend to give the item as a gift.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plan a night of t-shirt making for your youth group or the neighborhood kids, or maybe just a night of family fun. When you wash your t-shirt be sure to turn it inside out, and avoid using washing liquids that contain bleaching agents. If you give it as a gift maybe include a card of care instructions for the recipient.
