How to Use an FTP Proxy thumbnail
FTP allows you to access files on a server.

File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, is a remote connection that allows you to access and update files on a Web server. This technology is extremely useful when managing websites, as it allows you to download, modify and reupload files as necessary. Configuring an FTP program is a relatively simple process, provided that you have the necessary server configuration information.

Instructions

    • 1

Download FileZilla, a free FTP client (see Resources).

    • 2

Open the FileZilla download file and follow the on-screen installation instructions.

    • 3

Open FileZilla. Click "File", then "Site Manager."

    • 4

Select "New Site." Under "Logon Type:" select "Normal." Enter the username and password provided to you by your Web hosting provider in the appropriate fields. In the "Host:" field, enter your Web server IP address.

    • 5

Click "Connect." You should now see the root file directory of your website. Download and upload files as you see fit.
