How to Ask for a Donation of a Vehicle

Asking for a car donation can be done in many ways. You may ask family members or friends, search sources online, call community service organizations or post ads online or in schools. If you're shy, you may prefer to place an ad rather than have direct contact with others.

Instructions

1. Place an ad on Craigslist. Since Craigslist has a high traffic volume, someone near your local area is bound to see your advertisement. You can use a headline such as "Seeking Car Donation." Then place "$1" in the monetary area, since a value is required. List your city and place an ad in the "Description" area of the screen. For example, "I found a new job, but need transportation. Please help." You may leave your phone number or opt for anonymity when receiving responses via email.

2. Talk with your spiritual adviser. Ask if there is a committee that would handle automobile donations or if she may be able to assist you.

3. Place an ad on a college campus. Students always view message boards on college campuses. Check to see if you need to get permission from a specific department prior to posting your ad. Keep your ad simple. You may use colored markers on paper to specify that you are seeking a car donation and list your name and phone number.

4. Check your local area for organizations that accept car donations. Look in the telephone directory to find the phone number of such organizations, and call them to ask if they issue their car donations to members of the public who are in need.

5. Call your local, city or community building or department of human services. Ask if there are any existing programs that will assist you with a car donation.
