How to Relocate to Another Base as a Member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves thumbnail
The Air Force Reserves do not require relocation.

There are many American citizens who are anxious to do their duty and join the military. Many sign up for a long-term contract and make the military their career. However, you can still serve your country while living the life you are used to. Joining the United States Air Force Reserve gives you the experience and benefits of being a member of the military without a daily commitment. Therefore, a transfer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve works differently than joining the military full-time.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide if you will want to relocate to another base or stay with your current base. Since the Air Force Reserves do not require you to relocate when you join, you have the ability to stay with your base, even if you move. You will still be responsible for attending training sessions, so you will need to decide if changing bases will be best for you.

    • 2

Research the bases closest to your home. While the reserves are not as strict about transferring between bases, if there are no reservist openings at the base closest to your new home, you may still need to travel for training exercises.

    • 3

Petition your command for a relocation to another base. Relocating to another base is an easier process for those in the reserves rather than active duty military.

Great Article, just one thing, is there a certain amount of time that a person in the AFR must wait in order to transfer, or can the request be place at anytime during your enlistment?
