How to Make a Cheap Ninja Costume
Halloween is the perfect time to try out a new identity for an evening. Wearing a fun costume to a party lets you be anyone you want for the evening. Even children can join the fun by dressing up as their favorite characters or animals, or by wearing a costume depicting an aspired-to profession. While some costumes can be expensive and hard to come by, especially once Halloween is over, others can be assembled easily and inexpensively. If you or your child wants to be a ninja for the day, don't go shopping for a costume. You can make your own super-cheap and super-fun ninja outfit at home.

1
Find a pair of black sweatpants. You want them to be loose and baggy to mimic the shape of ninja pants. Pair them with a black sweatshirt and black shoes, and the basic components of the costume are done.
-
2
Make your ninja mask. Because this does not require any real production you can wait until you are putting your costume on to create the mask. Turn the black T-shirt inside out and place it over your head so that the tag faces the front and the sleeves are out to the side (above your ears.) Pull the sleeves tight behind the head and tie them into a knot. Pull the top collar of the shirt down so that it sits right above the eyes. Pull the bottom collar up so that only your eyes are showing. Fold the bottom collar over to conceal the tag.

3
Tie the red scarf around your waist to serve as your ninja sash.

4
Make your weapons. Use the pencil to draw the ninja weapon of your choice onto the cardboard. Possible weapons include a sword, knife, nunchucks or a bow. Cut out the shape using your scissors and paint the weapon black. Paint only the handle portion black if you are making a sword or knife.

5
Allow the painted weapon to dry. If you are making a sword or knife, cover the blade portion of the weapon with aluminum foil to give it a more realistic appearance.

Tips & Warnings
For a fun group costume, find a group of friends, swap out the black clothes for other colors and go as a swarm of ninjas.
Since your eyes are the only part of your face or body that will be visible, add black eye liner around them for an extra bit of intensity.
If you intend to wear this costume for prolonged periods of time in hotter temperatures, substitute the sweatpants and sweatshirt with clothes made from lighter, more breathable fabrics.
