How to Remove Wine Stains From Canvas

Red wine can cause hard-to-remove stains.

Wine stains are notoriously challenging to remove, especially when the wine is of the red variety. Thankfully, wine stains affecting cotton-based fabrics are generally easier to treat than those affecting other types of fabric. Made from cotton, canvas will respond favorably to stain-removing efforts, as long as you use the appropriate supplies and methods.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Dish soap
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Sponge

Instructions

1. Place a dry towel underneath the stained canvas to absorb the wine as you clean.

2. Combine 1 tsp. dish soap with 1 tsp. hydrogen peroxide.

3. Moisten a sponge with the soap mixture and gently apply to the stained canvas by dabbing the fabric. Let it set for one minute.

4. Blot the wine with a clean sponge until you effectively remove the stain.

5. Launder the canvas in cool water.

Tips & Warnings

• Attempt stain removal as quickly as possible. Stains are easier to lift while wet.
